Titanium Dioxide and the Dust Issue - What′s it all about?
In the current consultation (until 8 February) regarding the EU proposal to classify titanium dioxide as hazardous substance many of the respondants highlight that the issue is not about the substance itself but about "general particle effects", in other words "dust". A new infographic (link) explains where in the production chain dust occurs and where it is not an issue. Also, the graphic shows which protection measures secure that workers are not exposed to high dust emissions.
This graphic would be more complete and transparant if the maintenance phase is included. Grinding and removing old paint leads to exposure to dust which will contain TiO2 amongst others. There are many ways to mitigate such exposure, for example by applying systems published at https://www.dustfreeworking.tno.nl/tools/search-tools?tested=100345,100344

5 年Diving into French made investigation regarding TiO2 conducted on rats frankly speaking ALL inhalable products should display a warning label as atleast ,potentialy cancerogenic’. Under those conditions lungs could be same way mechanicaly damaged by inhaling dust, strach, sand or coal/thus Not due to chemical compaund/ Imagine inhaling hair spray at hairdresser working there.

5 年A very illustrative infographic, the risk to consumers is non-existent for almost all uses of TiO2. It's important to make sure we do not scare consumers unnecessarily. The consultation is a great opportunity for the European industry to explain consequences for downstream users. More on February 14th!
