The Titan sub that went missing within a couple hours of its dive off the Canada coast on Sunday, probably imploded so fast that all five victims onboard would have been unaware of the event taking place, submersible experts said. It is unclear what led to the destruction of the Titan, but it has emerged that the US Navy may have heard it implode. A navy official told CBS News that "an acoustic anomaly consistent with an implosion" was detected shortly after the Titan lost contact with the surface.
Separate pieces were discovered that allowed authorities to confirm they came from the Titan, including a tail cone.?They said the debris found on the seafloor, 1,600 feet (500 meters) from the bow of the Titanic, indicated that the craft would have suffered a “catastrophic implosion”. Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman Dawood; British adventurer Hamish Harding; and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet were the passengers who died onboard the ill-fated Titan.
Experts told the BBC that gathering and analysing the debris, particularly the carbon fibre that the main hull was made of, may shed some light on the cause of the disaster.?Earlier this week, authorities said that Canadian aircraft had detected underwater sounds, which some experts speculated may have been a sign that the submersible's passengers were still alive.??The Coast Guard now believes there was no connection between the noises and the location at which the debris was found on the sea floor.
Though?the five died in what the US Coast Guard believes was a catastrophic implosion.
