"Tis the season to reach out if you need mental health support, says crisis society."
I know that it is the holiday season and it is supposed to be the time of good cheer. However for many, this time of year can be stressful mentally and I want you to know that you are not alone.
Because of the stress of the holidays, it is a great time to reach out for help, even if it is just you wanting to be heard. That is why many crisis lines are staffed to handle the holiday blues .
The holiday blues are not just a time of the year, when people feel blue, if left unchecked these blues can spill over into the next year and further.
Christmas time, can be particularly triggering for people who have a history of trauma associated with the holidays or struggle with depression and anxiety already.
When the holiday season comes up we might not even realize why we are not feeling so great but it could be because things happened in the past and it triggers mental health things now.
Another factor, is that substance and alcohol use goes up at this time of year in many households.
Advice for anyone with a history of trauma who is having trouble coping at Christmas? Call the crisis line.
I want all who are reading this to Remember, that not crisis is to small.
