‘Tis the season to give back
It is that special time of the year again, and as the festivities are in full swing across the country, I am taking this opportunity to pause and reflect on the past year and look at the role and impact that we have had in our local community. After all, Christmas is a time of giving and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to see our UK hotels supporting charitable organisations and causes on our doorstep and beyond.
This year in particular, as we reach subzero temperatures and an unprecedented cost of living crisis, it feels more important than ever to give back and to support those in need around us.
This Festive Season, Andaz London Liverpool Street is supporting Hospitality Action – a charity that raises funds to help colleagues in our industry. The hotel has added an invisible chips portion on their menu. Guaranteed 0% fat and 100% charity, all proceeds will go to the charity and will make a world of difference to a hospitality family struggling to make ends meet.
The hotel is also taking part in the SleepSmart initiative. From 1st November until 31st December 2022, a voluntary donation of £1 will be added to every guest room bill, with every penny raised going towards local charities that work with homeless and vulnerable people in London.
Colleagues are also able to make a direct, positive impact on the community – this year, all Andaz colleagues will have the opportunity to donate to Save the Children.
Great Scotland Yard - The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is also joining the SleepSmart initiative, by adding a discretionary £1 on every table bill in the Food & Beverage outlets.
At Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill , colleagues and guests alike are fundraising for Cosmic, a local charity that supports the children’s and neonatal intensive care units at St Mary’s Hospital and beyond. The funds will go towards toys and festive activities for hospitalised children and their families, so that everyone gets to enjoy the Magic of Christmas.
The hotel will also be donating 100 Christmas meals to The Marylebone Project, a shelter for homeless women and the only one of its kind in the UK.
While this is just a glimpse of our seasonal activities, what stands out to me is the overwhelming sense of community and CARE from our teams, and I very much look forward to seeing what the next year brings!
