'Tis the season... for gift returns
From Challenger Chief Economist Dr Jonathan Kearns
It’s that time of year, when many people open presents to find… something they didn’t want. Not surprisingly Google shows a big tick up in searches for ‘gift return’ in December. But searches in Australia don’t spike as high as the rest of the world, so either we’re better at giving gifts, or too polite to return.
I’m not sure what’s happening in May and June, maybe people born then don’t like their birthday presents. Now who would they be?
And within Australia, it’s Victorians who lead the charge in gift returns. By contrast Queenslanders must be on the money with their gift buying.
Macro Musing will be taking a break, to do some deep thinking, musing maybe, back in mid-January. I hope you all get a restful break, and the presents you want.
