'Tis the light that?counts

On a clear night, you see thousands of stars light up the sky in sheer artistic brilliance. What most of us don’t know is that some, or several, of those stars, whose light we see, are dead. Though dead, it took a while for their light to reach our naked eyes. And the beauty we enjoy at the moment exists even though the provider of the light exists no more.

When we observe with our eyes, we do not know which stars are alive, and which stars are dead. Frankly, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the beauty of the experience. Flickering stars in the distant space on a dark night.

It is the same with leadership. The aim of true leadership is to continue giving light, beauty, and joy long after their time is over. In the history of time and the world, we think about the legacy of people, not companies. This is because people are the ultimate impactors on other people.

Like stars, we all burn out after a while. Some of us are gone and never remembered. Others remembered after we are gone.

So, work on letting your light shine. Choose to be a star.

Long after you are gone, let your light keep bringing beauty and joy, and a twinkle in a child’s eye.
