Do you struggle with the fear of being told no? Do you ever feel anxious or apprehensive about checking your emails, texts, or voice messages in fear of being rejected by prospective customers or partners? Or, maybe you don't even reach out or follow up with people just out of fear of rejection?
Before you deal with rejection, you have to understand that your daily habits will make you or break you. So, do your habits make success inevitable? Are you consistently doing the work daily to see the results down the road? Are you talking the talk and walking the walk? There is a big difference between reaching out to 20 people a day versus just 2 people a day. In any business, especially in sales, rejection is part of the process. Fear of rejection is common, especially if you are just learning how to sell yourself and sell your product or service. It's important that you posture yourself for success and have the right mindset to get past the rejection.
I came across this powerful TED Talk with Jia Jiang that puts rejection into perspective. Jia Jiang shares how he desensitized himself from the pain that rejection brings. He says not to run, but to embrace rejection. He went on a 100 day quest of asking for strange requests, from asking a stranger to borrow $100 to asking a restaurant for a free burger refill. During this journey he learns how asking for what you want can open way more doors than you think. Listen in on Jia Jiang's brief yet powerful TED Talk on what he learned from 100 days of rejection.
