How has the start of the new financial year hit you?

Can you believe it's a few weeks into April already??

This new year realisation can smack us between the eyes in one of two ways:

1) Excitement - Full of the joys of spring and a new year ahead. A blank canvas - you're excited about the potential.

?

2) Pure unadulterated panic - How the heck are you going to navigate this new year to have more impact, growth and revenue, when last year was a bit of a wash out.

?

?

It's swinging in the balance!

?

Today I want to start with something you may not have top of your list when you think of your business strategy for 2024/25 - and that's...

?

?

THE MINDSET

... We are the sum total of the stories we tell ourselves.

?

And I've seen it time and time again, that a defeatist and "thinking small" mindset can be the break of a business.


Take Marta* - as a talented stylist for postnatal women, she has what so many women need.? Yet this one thing was holding her back.

?

The story she'd told herself was that she was an introvert. And introverts don't get visible.? She told herself that her work (website) would speak for itself and as she found it uncomfortable to show up on social media, so she didn't.

?

?

And it became a self fulfilling prophecy.?

?

?? She felt uncomfortable about showing up.?

?? She pulled back from being visible and showing up on social media and at events.

?? And business shuddered to a halt.?

?? Which knocked her confidence.?

?? She started comparing herself to other people in her industry - and the imposter voice kicked in.??

?? And so it underlined her limiting beliefs.

?

And round and round it goes.

?

3 POWERFUL MINDSET QUESTIONS

?

?

Here are 3 questions that bring about powerful shifts for myself and my clients when we get into that "Doubting Dennis / Dora" mindset:

?

?

1) What evidence do I have to the contrary??

?

"I'm not as good/experienced/funny/*insert chastising word* as the other people in my field."

?

To counteract this self flagellation, think about quantitative results (KPIs, targets hit and outperformed, contracts won) and qualitative feedback to the contrary showing your skills (Client emails and testimonials, how you've felt when you've heard about your client wins).

?

Create a "Wall of fame" of this evidence - put it as a screen saver, on your wall behind your computer screen - whatever it takes for you to remind yourself of your value and worth.

?

?

2) What does success look like for me (tangibly)?

?

It can be easy to blurt out sweeping statements that aren't S.M.A.R.T !("I want to be more successful this year") and almost set ourselves up for success. By being crystal clear on what success looks like for YOU and breaking that success goal down into more manageable (and trackable) chunks, straight away this brings the unreachable down to achievable.

?

For example, "This year I want to increase enquiries in my X program by 31 March 2025.? This equates to X enquiries per month."

?

As you can see - it's so much easier to get a plan together on how to achieve that when it's tangible.

?

?

3) How can I be more curious and experimental?

?

As soon as I switched off the expectation of "perfection" (Does that even exist??) and switched on my childlike curiosity, interest in experimenting and testing out new approaches, it became more enjoyable.? And certainly less stressful.

?

I stopped chastising myself for making mistakes and started to look at areas for improvement (the More/Less/Stop/Start approach) instead when I didn't achieve the intended results.

?
