Tired of never getting interviews? Here are THREE things to do to optimise your CV and get that call.

If you’re applying for jobs that you’re a perfect fit for but can’t even get to the initial interview stage, then the problem isn’t you… it’s your CV.

As someone who reads through up to hundreds of applications and resumes a day, from all backgrounds, profiles, experience levels, and abilities, it comes as no surprise to me which candidates from the pile have nothing lined up and which ones have more than they can manage.

Your CV?is?an introduction. It’s a peephole into who you are and what value you bring, so it has to have enough of an insight into you as a person in there for someone to say: “I need to speak with this person and find out more”.

??If it doesn’t, then you’re not going to get that call??

It’s as simple as that.If it doesn’t provide answers to the problems those hiring managers are facing, then, in their heads, it’s not going to be worth their already limited time trying to contact you.

REMEMBER: The people reading your CV have their own jobs to carry out and, depending on the reason for the requirement, could even be juggling other peoples???

So make it worth it for them!

It’s a shame that as many great candidates do get overlooked at this stage, but some minimal changes to your CV could put a stop to that.

And that’s what I’m here to help you with.Although the whole resume has importance, the majority of hiring managers will only jump straight to your recent job (or maybe the last few if you’ve moved around often).

If they don’t see something they like or want in that incredibly brief section, you’re not getting an interview…

So if you do anything to your CV, do this???

???Use bullet points

Keep. It. Simple. You don’t need to write an essay of your role, but include key, precise points of what you do daily, what you did in a project, what technologies you used to achieve that etc.

???Tailor your most relevant activities to the job you’re applying for

For example, if you’re a Network engineer looking for a networking job, emphasise your firewall configuration experience and protocols knowledge (don’t just talk about the password resets you did when you started in IT as a 1st?line engineer…)

???Make sure all your fonts and sizing are the same

Something blatantly copied and pasted into this section can be very off putting, and it makes it appear as if you didn’t care enough about your application to make it look neat and uniform.

I could dive a lot deeper in this, and maybe it’s something I could do in the future, but for now… if you do anything to your CV,?do this?and you will see a result.
