Tired of nagging your teen about college?

Hope all is well with you and your family. Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week.

My daughter returns from Namibia and South Africa after the holiday and I'm so excited to hear about her semester-long program there.?

In case you're wondering...the costs for traveling abroad are a separate line item from tuition. :-)

Cost of Attendance vs Tuition

This is a reminder to families who are planning for college expenses. . . Look at the cost of attendance NOT just tuition. We hear a lot in the media about tuition. Housing is an obvious cost. The other pesky costs of attendance, which are not in the glossy brochures, include travel abroad programs, pledging Greek organizations, business clothing for interviews, and additional insurance coverage.

What are other costs of attendance that you are anticipating?

Compass is an outstanding counseling firm, providing far more individualized focus than high school college prep counselors. They offer loving support, encourage self discipline, and provide mentorship. Their proprietary college search system was significantly more effective than what our daughter’s school offered. Compass provides holistic guidance from sophomore year of high school to freshman year of college. Their support is more comprehensive than most college counselor services, ranging from high school course selection, summer enrichment programs, college research, college visits, applications, scholarships and internships. On a more personal note, I had many friends who had regular fights with their children over meeting deadlines, creating college lists, and revising essays. We didn’t have any of that because Compass provided a structure for our daughter to do those things herself. In this way, Compass helped preserve our relationship with our daughter in an otherwise stressful time. I would unequivocally recommend Compass. Their services were worth the investment!

Just sent this to a friend that said she can’t go on our girl’s trip because she’s too busy! We’re telling her exemplifying a non-busy life is her job as a mom! Love this.
