Tips for writing captions that convert!
What is the anatomy of a caption that converts???
?HOOK ~ This is what will make them stop their scroll and keep reading! When it comes to Instagram, the end goal is to keep your audience on the post; aka keep reading! Think of your hook as you would email subject lines. Start paying attention to what is coming into your inbox and enticing you to open it. Ask yourself with this catch their interest? By simply saying happy Tuesday, why would someone want to keep reading? Would you???
??? Pro Tip -> Just like you brainstorm subject lines for your emails, brainstorm opening lines for your captions! Heck even create one giant list for captions and subject lines. ?I also have a document that keeps subject lines sent to me that I liked, not to copy but for inspo! ?
?STORY ~ What are you talking about that will keep them entertained and bursting at the seems to comment back? Whether you are doing an educational piece or service pitch, stories sell! ?The best way to start incorporating stories into your captions is to start. Once you practise telling your stories and relating it to your business, somehow, eventually, it will become second nature. I love it when I'm reading a caption, and all of a sudden, their story ties into their brand. Side note that is not to say that every story has to lead to a pitch. Social Media is a great way for your audience to get to know you more, and if going to the beach every weekend with your fam jam is part of you share something funny that happened. We can't be straight biz all the time! ?
??? Pro Tip -> create your captions from a place of creation, not staring at an image struggling to come up with a caption. When you set out to plan your content think about different things that have happened, which you can relate back to your brand story. ??
?For example, one of my clients is a sustainable t-shirt company, and we never talk about the specific product in the photo. We chat about the brand's message, lifestyle and general life stuff letting the stories sell the products. ??
?CALL TO ACTION ~ Often I see a great story and then simply just a "have a great day babe", ok that's nice, but what do you expect someone to do with that? Comment back saying, "you too!". You want to have CTA's that encourage engagement; people love chatting about themselves. End your post with a question, tag a friend, drop an emoji something that makes them want to comment! When creating your CTA's, ask yourself if you would comment back on it or not? ??
??? PRO TIP -> Look at your competitors and see what they are using for their CTA's. Just like your hooks, create a master list you can pull from when you're creating content! ??
