Tips for Web Summit in Lisbon
Web Summit , held annually in Lisbon, Portugal, is a globally renowned technology and innovation conference that brings together a diverse community of tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, investors, and thought leaders from around the world. You can expect a dynamic mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions, startup showcases, and workshops, creating a vibrant environment for the exchange of ideas and the forging of valuable connections within the tech industry.
This year I will attend this amazing event again together with my colleagues from Droxic ! And if you're planning to attend in Lisbon, here are some tips to help you make the most of your experience:
Web Summit's schedule is packed with sessions, workshops, and networking events. Plan your schedule ahead of time using the official Web Summit app or website to ensure you don't miss out on the sessions and speakers that interest you the most.
Arriving early (or late) for the conference can help you avoid long lines at registration and security checks. It also gives you a head start on networking and exploring the venue. Personal tip; If you arrive a few days early you can already register yourself at the airport, which will save you a lot? of time as most people will register at the venue on the first day.
Networking is a significant part of Web Summit. Identify key people or companies you want to connect with and try to schedule meetings in advance. Attend networking events, dinners, and after-parties to maximise your interactions. For example, Droxic devised a timetable for each team member to ensure we attend as many networking events, as possible.
Web Summit involves a lot of walking and standing. Wear comfortable shoes, and dress in layers as the venue can get crowded and warm.? Luckily we will be wearing our comfortable Droxic T-shirt!?
Although technology is a primary focus, business cards are still a valuable networking tool. Carry a stack of cards to exchange contact information quickly.?
Make sure your smartphone, tablet, and laptop are fully charged each day. There are many locations to charge your device but chances are that many of them are occupied, so a portable charger can be a lifesaver.
Lisbon can be warm (even in November), and you'll be on your feet for long hours. Drink plenty of water and bring a bottle that you can refill. I will bring my DiFOLD #droxic bottle, which I love). Don't skip meals. Lisbon has great food options, so take the opportunity to try local cuisine. My personal favorites are the ameijoas a bulhao pato, cozida a Portuguesa and the bacalhau.
Web Summit often features roundtable discussions and workshops that provide a more intimate setting for learning and networking. These can be great opportunities for in-depth conversations. Another great way is to join the side events organised by companies at the Web Summit. Most of them will take place in the afternoon / in the evening and this is a very good list . My personal favourite is the event organised by Rachel Jacobs ???? on the 13rd of November, more information about her event can be found here :?

Download and use the official Web Summit app . It's a valuable tool for navigating the event, managing your schedule, and connecting with other attendees.
After Web Summit, follow up with the contacts you've made. Send thank-you emails, connect on LinkedIn, and nurture the relationships you've built. The true value of networking often becomes apparent after the event is over.? We, at Droxic, are planning to post everyday summaries. Stay tuned and follow us on our LinkedIn page for more updates.
Don't forget to enjoy Lisbon!
We are all going to be very busy with everything that is happening at and around the Web Summit. But if you have some time, explore the city.? it's essential to focus on a few key highlights to get a taste of the city's culture and beauty. Here's a condensed itinerary that allows you to experience some of Lisbon's most iconic attractions:
Belém District (1-1.5 hours):
Start your whirlwind tour in the Belém district. This area is famous for its historical significance and iconic landmarks.
Lisbon Waterfront (30 minutes - 1 hour):
Stroll along the Tagus River waterfront and enjoy scenic views of the 25 de Abril Bridge (reminiscent of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge) and the Christ the King statue on the far side of the river.
Alfama District (1 hour):
Head to Lisbon's oldest neighborhood, Alfama. This historic area is known for its narrow winding streets, charming houses, and Fado music.
End at Pra?a do Comércio (30 minutes):
Wrap up your short visit at Pra?a do Comércio, also known as Terreiro do Pa?o, a grand square facing the Tagus River. The square is surrounded by impressive yellow buildings, making it one of the most picturesque spots in Lisbon.
(Note that this is a very condensed itinerary, and you won't have time to explore these attractions in depth. However, it will give you a taste of Lisbon's historic and scenic beauty. If you have more time in the future, you can return to explore the city in more detail and immerse yourself in its rich culture).
Please don't hesitate to reach out if I've missed any vital information about attending WebSummit, or if you have any valuable tips for navigating such a grand event. You can either leave a comment or send me a private message. Additionally, if you'll be attending, I'd love to connect and hear about your reasons for being at WebSummit and your past experiences. Looking forward to connecting with fellow attendees!
