Tips and Tricks III

Tips and Tricks III

I was editing this article recently and deleted everything in it. Luckily, I keep a backup, so I just copy and pasted it back in. I do have some editing and formatting to still do, though.

Tip #276: Leave a URL of your Indeed profile on your LinkedIn profile and vice versa. This gives recruiters an extra place to connect with you.

Tip #277: Make sure you don't have multiple Indeed profiles or LinkedIn profiles, as this can throw off a Recruiter. Run a search for yourself on each platform. If you find more than one profile, see if you can delete it on your own. If not, reach out to the Customer Support team and have them remove the older, outdated one.

Tip #278: If you are looking for a new role, one thing you can do is spell your job title wrong on one part of your profile. I know that it sounds funny, but sometimes us Sourcers and Recruiters spell something wrong in our search and could come across your profile and not many others.

Tip #279: Check out the Magical Chrome Extension and add it to your tools to help with text expanding! https://lnkd.in/ehaGgbDn

Tip #280: If you come across someone who is in college or graduated within the last few years, look up the format of their school email address and reach out to them there!

Tip #281: If you are looking to attend a concert this summer or go on a big trip, look no further than Groupon! There are a lot of great deals on there and they have no fees. Also, if you add an extension like @Capital One Shopping, Rakuten, or PRODEGE, LLC DBA SWAGBUCKS, you can sometimes save even more! https://www.groupon.com/

Tip #282: Take time off! It is super important for your mental health. Make sure you work for a company that values time off. When interviewing with a company - ask about it in your interview, read reviews, talk to people you know who work at the company. I will be out of the office all next week and I am looking forward to some downtime!

Tip #283: The day after a major holiday, head on over to CVS Health, Walgreens, Target or one of the other many retail establishments to stock up on discounted candies along with decorations for next year!

Tip #284: When it comes to emails, phone calls, in-person conversations - make sure you mirror the people you are talking to. If the person you are speaking with is formal, be formal. If they are informal, you can be informal. If they use exclamations mark, feel free to use them back!

Tip #285: Don't watch This Is Us on your lunch break when you have phone screens and meetings lined up right after.

Tip #286: If you are a big live music enthusiast like I am but hate paying a ridiculous amount of fees, check out Live Nation Entertainment this week! Once a year, they run Concert Week where tickets are a flat $25! Check it out and buy some tickets today!

Tip #287: A lot of jobs require some sort of sales. And sales can play a big part in your everyday life. Watch episodes of Shark Tank, The Profit, Billion Dollar Buyer, or even Kitchen Nightmares, Restaurant: Impossible, or Bar Rescue to learn how to sell yourself, your ideas, how to find and fix problems, and so much more!

Tip #288: Since starting at Indeed, I have had a lot of people ask how to get their foot in the door with our company. Here is the advice that I give to anyone wanting to get in the door here or anywhere else: ? Apply to jobs that you know you are a fit for. Run down the bullets of the Requirements section and make sure you fit a good amount of them. ? Apply to roles on our careers page (indeed.jobs) and not just a place where you can do Easy Apply. This way, you have a better chance of being seen and you will be added to our Talent Community in case the role you applied for isn't a fit at this time. ? Don’t apply to roles that are out of your wheelhouse. For example, a new grad entering the professional market for the first time with 0 years of professional work experience applying to a Director-level role overseeing an entire department ? See if you have any connections at Indeed, family, friends, alumni, previous colleagues. If so, have them refer you to a role. ? Slightly change up your résumé for each job that you apply for. Make sure that your resume highlights your experiences that are relevant to the role. ? Connect with people at the company using the following in the search above: (sourcer OR sourcing OR recruiter OR recruiting OR recruitment OR talent). Keep an eye out for roles they are directly working on and connect with them from there. ? Don’t apply to too many roles. Sometimes this will discourage TA people from looking at other applications because they think you have been rejected for a legit reason and not just because you applied to roles you weren’t a fit for. Some of our jobs can get thousands of applicants, so you might not hear back right away. Or you might even hear back when the role has been filled. But stay patient and keep applying to the roles where you know you can come in and hit the ground running. *I edited this up today after some people made some good suggestions!

Tip #391: Pay close attention when a recruiter gives you a salary range. Look at the whole range, not just one number. Most often, you will not be brought in at the low end or the high end. The more relevant experience, including industry experience, the more you could find yourself towards the higher end. And as mentioned before, make sure you also take into account bonuses, healthcare, 401K, along with other perks. Lastly, think about cost of living. If the role requires you to relocate, where you will live could be much cheaper than where you currently reside. #jobsearch #careersearch

Tip #392: If a Recruiter sends you a link to apply for a role and the link brings you to a page that doesn't exist, that doesn't necessarily mean the role has been filled and we are no longer hiring for that role. We work on a lot of evergreen roles. Roles with multiple openings. Sometimes during one time of the year, sometimes throughout the year. And when one of these roles is filled, we have to open another requisition.
