Every year, BigSteelBox surveys Canadians to help us better understand the stresses and concerns of our clients. From packing to unexpected costs, over half of Saskatchewan residents admit that moving related anxieties can last for at least a couple of months. Moving can even cause more stress than quitting smoking, starting a family or planning a wedding!
With the year’s busiest moving date on the horizon, many Saskatchewan residents may be feeling the stress of moving starting to set in. Based on the results of this year’s Moving Survey results, we’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to help avoid packing procrastination and ease costs:
1. Give yourself more time than you think you need. Packing often takes longer than expected and it’s important not to leave it to the last minute – 23.8% of Saskatchewan residents admitted to cramming their packing within a few days, only adding stress to an already demanding time.
2. Do your research! 48.2% of Saskatchewan residents say their last move was costlier than expected. Make sure to learn about all of the options that are out there and then make an educated decision based on your budget, capacity, and physical abilities.
3. When you’re packing, label your boxes and create a master legend. This helps make unpacking a quicker, less stressful experience because everything is already organized.
4. Don’t overwhelm yourself – focus on packing / unpacking one individual room at a time based on your individual needs.
5. Understand the different costs of moving options – unpredictable pricing from moving companies is a concern for 29.2% of Saskatchewan residents so it’s important to get a quote you understand. Most long distance moving companies will charge by weight, which is hard to estimate upfront and can lead to a final bill much larger than the initial quote. BigSteelBox charges by the size and number of steel shipping containers you use, which means your quote will match your final charge.
