Tips and tricks #3 - Web browsers

Tip 1: If you accidentally close an important tab in your browser, you can quickly re-open it by pressing “control + shift + t” on a Windows PC.

Tip 2: If you’re searching for something in Google but keep getting irrelevant results, try wrapping your search in quotes. Google will then only show results that exactly match whatever you have written in quotes. This can make it much easier to find what you’re looking for.

Tip 3: Similar to the previous tip, you can use a minus “-” symbol to remove results featuring that word or phrase. This can be handy when what you are looking for has a similar spelling to something else.

Tip 4: If you have a folder of bookmarks that you use every day, you can open them all at once by either right-clicking on the folder and selecting “open all” or clicking the folder with the mouse wheel (middle click).

Tip 5: Similar to the previous tip, if you have web pages that you want to open all the time/ by default, you can pin them so they always open when you open your browser. This can be done by right-clicking on the tab and selecting “Pin”

Tip 6: Signing in to save your bookmarks and passwords etc:

  • If you use Office 365 for work, then we recommend you use Microsoft Edge and enable sync
  • If you use Google Workspace, then we recommend you use Chrome and enable sync

Tip 7: If you find websites are sending you annoying notifications, you can disable them with the following steps:

  • Click the More icon (?), at the top-right corner of the browser.?
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Privacy and Security in the side panel, and then select Site settings.
  • Click Notifications.
  • Select Don't allow sites to send notifications

Tip 8: Did you know there is a keyboard shortcut for deleting your browsing data? Ctrl + Shift + Delete will bring up the “delete browsing history” menu in most browsers
