The holy month of Ramadan is almost upon us. As it coincides with the hot summer months, staying hydrated is a concern. While the window for hydration is short(Before dawn and after sunset), it is more than enough to ensure a healthy, hydrated fast, provided you follow the tips listed below:-
Drink Water
Water is the best way to stay hydrated during Ramadan. Consume copious amounts of water before suhoor and after iftar. We recommend attaching the action of drinking water with specific and frequent actions(Eg: Whenever you get a text message or an ad rolls). While hydrating, remember that consuming large amounts of water in one go is ineffective. Instead, opt for smaller amounts of water spread throughout the allowed time.?
Stay Cool
A high body temperature will lead to persistent sweating, translating to an overall deficit of water in the body, leading to dehydration. As such, it is essential to make sure you stay cool. Cold showers, air conditioning and running water over the face, neck and back of the ears are some actions that can help regulate body temperature.
Exercise but conservatively
Exercise is vital as it aids in releasing harmful toxins and chemicals. But, only light exercise is recommended during Ramadan. Stay active by walking or cycling during the cooler times of the day(preferably three hours after the Iftar meal)
Dress Appropriately

Your clothing plays a factor in your body temperature and, through it, your hydration levels. Details like the fabric, colour, number of layers and environment matter when choosing appropriate clothing. Generally, opt for lighter colours and textiles with a looser fit that allow your sweat to evaporate.
Eat Right
Avoid eating simple sugars or consuming beverages high in caffeine as they tend to dehydrate you faster. Replace Ramadan sweets in your Iftar meals with fruits like watermelon and oranges. Consider adding healthy green salads to your meals to increase your overall water intake.
