Tips & Resources for Landing a New Job

Tips & Resources for Landing a New Job

For immigrants and international students who are looking for a job!

As an immigrant myself, starting from scratch, I had difficulty finding the most appropriate resources to apply for a job.

My country did not even consider LinkedIn, so I was unaware that I needed to have a LinkedIn account to find and apply for jobs here in America.

It took me some time to explore #linkedin and other job boards and platforms.

To make the job searching process EASIER for YOU, I put together a list of resources that you can use to apply for jobs.

*The list is intended but not limited to immigrants, newcomers, and international students.

How to apply for jobs in America?

  1. https://www.dhirubhai.net/jobs -?LinkedIn?has 58 million registered companies with?more than 15 million?open job listings. Up to?87% of recruiters regularly use LinkedIn?to find active and?passive job search?candidates. The best tool for personal branding, and direct messaging with a recruiter.
  2. https://www.indeed.com - 10 new job posts are added every second (they claim it). Posts all kinds of work including internships, freelance, and part-time. Easy to search relevant jobs by keywords, title, industry, and location.
  3. https://www.ziprecruiter.com ?- A great place for manual labor or entry-level jobs. Professional jobs just don’t have as many job seekers on the platform
  4. https://www.monster.com - Monster operates in 14 countries, and it’s best for local and regional hiring.?It has a candidate evaluation tool but doesn’t verify skills via assessments.
  5. https://themomproject.com - A good resource for moms looking for jobs, offers jobs to work from home.
  6. https://www.dice.com -?Focused on technology candidates.
  7. https://angel.co Wellfound (AKA Angel’s list)?- A platform for anyone looking to get a job at a startup.

???https://webflow.com - for web developers to build custom blogs, portfolios, e-commerce stores, etc.

Additional Resources: Company Reviews & Salary Information

???https://www.glassdoor.com - a great resource for company reviews. Get insights about the team and culture before applying for a job. It is also a great resource to learn about salaries before you negotiate.

Do you have any suggestions to make this list more helpful to immigrant fellows??
