Creating a workplace culture that breeds high morale and engagement doesn’t happen by accident. It requires leadership – wise, empathetic, discerning, thoughtful, and caring leadership. And it’s a leadership you can’t fake. It has to flow from who you are as a person.
Many bosses seek to root out bad employees by catching them in the act of doing something wrong, then reprimanding them. In reality, though, the converse approach might work better. This week, let's focus on catching people doing something right. At that point, you can use positive reinforcement to drive home good ideas and help people develop into employees who do what’s best for the company.
Sadly, many workplaces today have rigid policies, procedures, measures, job descriptions and obsessive overwork cultures are doing little to encourage individuals to embrace their uniqueness and quirky ways.
Consider reading the book "When Bosses Go Wild" to learn about the 12 most common behaviors that affect happiness at work and the strategies you can employ to get the most out of your workplace experience.

Now it's your turn. If you could wave your magic wand and change one thing about the work environment to make it a better place to be, what would you do?

Think of culture as organizational health and happiness. We can take an organization’s vital signs much as we would a person’s. Rather than running lab tests, however, we can infer health from robust activity, the demeanor of employees, what people say in the organization, and what people say about the organization. Here are five ways to influence what happens: Model the way Encourage change Demand learning Reward innovation and tolerate risk Realize it’s about success, not perfection.
