How to create your own Passes for iOS Wallet.

First things first, I’m a diehard Apple fan. And I use Apple Wallet (previously called Passbook) almost everyday. But the other day when I booked a train ticket on IRCTC, all I got was a pdf and an SMS of the ticket. No Passes! Ironically the IRCTC site metadata says, “Next Generation eTicketing Systemâ€. Hmm!
Then I thought, is it possible to have my own Pass, without writing a single line of code? Enter Google and a quick search resulted in a list of service providers from where you could actually create your own Pass! Yes, for free.
I picked up PassKit and voila! The site is quite user friendly, and after bit of playing around I got what I was looking for. A Pass for my IRCTC ticket. Not just tickets, you can create passes for Coupons, Store Cards, Membership Cards and Event Tickets from the templates provided. If you want to add a bar code/QR code then there’s a provision to upload a certificate to generate that. There’s also a way you make the pass appear on your lock screen before the event time. If you want to add some more information for example passenger details or ID details, like I did on IRCTC Pass, that too can be added on the back of the Pass. All in all, this is an extremely helpful site for those who use iOS Passes day-in, day-out.
Why don’t you give it a spin and let me know your thoughts.
