Interview time is the most amazing, most difficult, most challenging yet most satisfying time in one’s life. Needless to say, it is a roller coaster ride which churns lots of emotions and introduces us to our different self. That deep sigh after coming out of the interview room is like crossing a road that was bombarded with missiles, cars, trucks, animals all sent to crush you. It’s done to actually test one's perseverance and enduring capacity.
Nevertheless, here we bring some tips on how one can win the interviewers and crack the interview with the best possible capacities.
- As soon as you enter, greet the receptionist or the people you meet in the organization pleasantly and politely.
- Dress decently and formally- as dressing impeccably leaves a lasting impression.
- Make a folder containing all important documents required for the interview, such as your resume (at least 3 copies), certificates (and their Xerox copies), a list of references, a notepad, and a pen.
- Explain to the employer why you are fit for the job.
- Be prepared with examples from the previous job to describe a particular skill or ability.
- Be prepared with job-specific interview questions.
- Research about the company in advance and try to know about it as much as possible. Visit its website and read about the work culture, employees, its ethos, and ethics so that you are able to verbalize those values in your introduction and discussion.
- Practice a mock interview, either with a friend or a family member, so that you feel confident about yourself.
- Be prepared with the "tell me about yourself" question, which crops up in almost all the interviews.
- Remember, tell only those aspects/characteristics/ hobbies/ skills which you are confident of, as this might shape the course of your interview.
- Always have eye contact with the interviewer while answering the questions as it exudes confidence.
- Look interested in what the interviewer is saying to you, and take all suggestions positively.
- Be careful of your body language and posture as it also reflects your interest and attitude.
- Be humble and polite in whatever you say, as no company will appoint a rebel!
- Greet cheerfully before leaving the interview room and thank them for the opportunity. This will leave a lasting impression on their minds.
- After a day or two, follow up with a Thank-you note or a letter reiterating your interest in the job. It can be sent by hand or by mail. It is an opportunity that differentiates you from the others.
