Convey the message
The important responsibility of a graphic designer is to perfectly showcase the message he is supposed to convey those who see his work. Let it be a logo or poster, he should talk to them more through the Design than through plain text.
Research Before using a font
Readability and clarity of the design is highly important. So make sure not to restrict with a single font. And moreover make necessary research before using a font in your design. Knowing about the font family and placing the font in right place and size can make your design outstanding. At the same time lack of knowledge about it may not guarantee the readability of text and can badly affect the overall aesthetics of your design.
Use of whitespace
A design filled with elements throughout the entire canvas may not appear good. So don't forget to use whitespaces in your designs. Make sure your designs especially logo designs are not congested. A congested logo will be difficult to see for the viewers using devices with small displays.
Speak with size and color
You can emphasize words or sentences by increasing their size and by giving a dominant color to them. Use of italics, boldness and underline can help at certain situations.
