Tips for a good work-life balance

Savaco does many efforts to help people to have a good work-life balance.

Most people these days will have an idea about the term work-life balance. Simply translated, it is about the balance between your work life and your private life.

True, work-life balance is a term that is gaining more and more attention in our modern society. It's about finding the right work-life balance so that you have enough time for both and don't get overloaded. A good work-life balance can lead to more productivity, less stress, better relationships, and an overall sense of well-being. It is important to strive for a balance that suits you and to take time for hobbies, family and friends, and for your own health and well-being.

Anyone looking for workable work is looking for a balance between work and private life. This is no longer self-evident today and is an enormous challenge for many employees. For managers and the organization, this also requires adjustments and flexibility toward employees.

What does it mean to have a good work-life balance, and how do you get started?

As an employee, you are responsible for maintaining your work-life balance. In addition, it also depends on the phase of life you are in as an employee. Your family situation, your partner's work, your own job, ... . In short, many factors can have an influence.

The good news is that at Savaco you are largely in control of your own work-life balance. So you are also the first person who can change this.

How do you get started? Prioritize: You can't do everything. Set achievable goals where you can combine all your roles (family, job, hobby, ...).

?Make agreements about the content of your work and private life: This way you know which tasks fall under your responsibility. This is both at work and at home. This provides clarity and tranquility.

Reduce the pressure in your head: Experiencing pressure is not the same as being busy. Make a difference for yourself between real pressure and psychological pressure. Think about how much time you spend worrying about being busy. Then release more feelings. A brisk walk in the afternoon may already help you to let go of these emotions.

Work more efficiently: Both work and private. You can save many hours by using your time differently and/or more efficiently. Look at the tasks you do, how much time you spend on them, the order in which you do them, and how much time interruptions and distractions take.

Be assertive: Stand up for yourself and learn to say "no" so you don't get overloaded with tasks. This way you can guard your own boundaries.

Schedule time for yourself. What makes you happy? We often think that if we are constantly busy, this is also useful. On the contrary, it is precisely by making time for yourself that you can relax and there will be room for creativity, peace, and fun. Our bodies are not built to be busy 24 hours a day. Did you know that we can learn a lot from animals here?

Reduce stress: Stress causes most health problems in our society. Under stress, you think less clearly, and when stress lasts too long it affects important body functions. A disruption in the work-life balance causes a lot of stress. Before you know it, you are under pressure all day long. If you don't want to restore work-life balance for any other reason, at least do it for your own health.

Break negative patterns and beliefs: Often we do things unconsciously. You can break through such patterns and ideas. Find out for yourself which limiting patterns and beliefs you have and do something about it! You are in control of your own future.

And do not forget to do some sports and physical efforts every day. Adults who exercise enough give themselves the best gift. If you exercise enough, you run less risk of cancers and dementia, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. And you also treat yourself to?better concentration and better memory, better blood pressure, and a healthier weight.

That's not all. An active life also means a better night's sleep, less chance of depression and anxiety: you feel better about yourself, and a longer independent, and quality life.

Savaco has received the “Sportbedrijf” ?label from Sport Vlaanderen, and of course, we are proud of it! Because the label is an official acknowledgment that Savaco as a company invests in the health of its employees by allowing them to exercise and exercise sufficiently.

This recognized label is distributed by Sport Vlaanderen to companies that meet a number of conditions (integrated sports and exercise policy, sports infrastructure, sports ambassadors, sports promotions from/to and at work, etc…). At Savaco we, therefore, have numerous sporting initiatives, largely supported by our sports committee, but in our biotope, we also have many sporty colleagues who practice a rich variety of sports (including king football and emperor cycling to padel, badminton, golf, swimming, running, calisthenics, kickboxing, yoga, spinning, tennis, quidditch and of course e-sports.
