Tips for Getting Back to Work

Coronavirus has taken over our lives for the past year, however, it does feel like the world is getting there. Although Germany is not coming out of lockdown yet, many of my clients are preparing to start bringing employees back from Kurzarbeit. This is fantastic news for employee financial/job security and companies getting back to their normal ways. However, if you have been on Kurzarbeit, a similar reduced working scheme, full time home office, or going back to work after time being unemployed, it can be daunting to return to work. I thought I would write a blog on what you can do to prepare yourself for going back to the office. The aim is to make the first weeks back at work easier.
1. Start waking up earlier each day. This way you will not feel so out of sync when your alarm goes off on Monday morning!
2. Do a test run. Many of my candidates have children or partners who have been also at home and returning to study or work. Instead of the mad family rush in the morning, do a test run a day or two before so it feels better on the day.
3. Be prepared. This maybe meal prepping, planning your days the night before, having your work outfits ready. They are small things but will take the stress and pressure off you for the first week back and is a great habit to get into.
4. Stay in touch with your colleagues. Most likely other colleagues who will be returning to work will feel the same so confide in each other.
5. Surround yourself with inspirational content. This could be looking at your favourite quotes, listening to podcasts or uplifting music.
These are just a few tips that may make returning to full time work easier. My main advice would be do not be afraid for it to take a while for you get back in the flow. It can be challenging to return to work after a vacation, let alone after months of a disrupted working style and routine. It may be hard at first but that is ok!
What are your thoughts? Is there anything that has helped you return to full time work that I have missed? Have you recently returned to full time work, how was it? Let me know in the comments below!
