Tips from a Test Creator: How to Pass Your NetSuite Certification Test

If you’re reading this then chances are that you are scheduled to take a NetSuite certification test, and you need help preparing. If that’s the case, you’re in luck.

Follow this step-by-step process and you’ll pass your NetSuite certification test guaranteed.

As someone who had the privileged of developing the SuiteCloud Developer II Certification Exam as well as take and pass several Oracle and Oracle NetSuite certifications in one go, like the SuiteFoundation Certification, NetSuite Administrator Certification, and the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Generative AI Certified Professional; I’ve gained some unique insights on how to prepare for and ultimately succeed in the test. In this article, I’ll share the exact method I recommend for acing their NetSuite certifications. And that is…

“Targeted study based on practice testing.”

What does that mean exactly? Here’s the quick list of steps:

  1. Take the sample test.
  2. Review and study the topics you couldn’t confidently answer.
  3. Take another test (with the help of AI).
  4. Rinse and Repeat.
  5. Don’t learn anything new on the day of the exam.

Take the Sample Test

Most people who take the exam make the mistake of going through the review courses to learn more about the exam they are taking. While this is not entirely bad, it will waste a lot of your time. What you need to do is to focus on the things that you’re not too familiar with. That way you won’t waste your time going through a video and dosing off because most of the topics are things that you’re already familiar with.

So, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Head over to the NetSuite Certification site and download the sample exam for your certification.
  2. Take the test once through (don’t stop at each question to study).
  3. When you’re done take note of the things you couldn’t confidently answer.

Review And Study The Topics You Couldn’t Confidently Answer

NOTE: If you haven’t noticed already, I didn’t say take note of the things you didn’t answer correctly. You need to specifically focus on the topics you can’t confidently answer even if you were able to answer it correctly (which probably means you guessed correctly). This is because you want to know about the topic, not memorize the questions.

Now that you know the topics that you’re not familiar with, continue studying by looking up videos on YouTube, search for articles about the topic, or if you have an LCS Pass go to the review courses but focus specifically on the topics on your list. Don’t try to learn everything, at least not yet.

Once you’re done try to go back to the sample test and take it again. This time feel free to pause and study each at a time to make sure you have a good grasp of the topics.

Take Another Test (With The Help Of AI)

This is where it gets really interesting. You can have your own personal tutor to help you practice your test. With the help of your AI of choice (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, MS Copilot), create a test that will test you on other topics you’re not familiar with. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Download the exam topics from the NetSuite Certification site.
  2. Feed the exam topics to your LLM of choice.
  3. Use AI to ask you one question at a time.
  4. Continue reviewing until you’ve gone through all topics.

If you’re new to AI or prompt engineering, here’s a detailed prompt that you can use to get started:

As an expert in NetSuite certification exams, generate 5 practice questions for the [specific certification name] exam, focusing on [topics from your review list]. For each question, provide:

1. A challenging multiple-choice question that tests a deep understanding of the concept.
2. 4 plausible answer choices, including at least one common misconception or trick answer.
3. A detailed explanation of the correct answer, including relevant formulas, code snippets, or real-world examples.
4. A clear explanation of why the incorrect answer choices are wrong, highlighting the specific knowledge gaps they expose.
5. An optional hint that can be revealed if the user struggles to answer the question.

Exam Day Preparation

One very important tip on your scheduled exam day is to NOT learn anything new. If you’re anxious or a nervous test taker, don’t study on the day of the exam. Take the time to relax, meditate if you follow that practice, maybe take some calming tea. If you’re not anxious at all, you can study but only review the things that you already know. Trying to learn new things on your exam day will be detrimental as your brain is focused on encoring information instead of retrieving, which you don’t want.

One more thing, test taking is a science and this video might just help you with your preparation:
