Tips for an effective online learning

Online learning transformed from innovative learning to everyday learning and this is mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Most of the students that moved from the traditional learning system to the online had some difficulties in getting out the most from the courses. However, an important thing to have in mind as far as online learning concerns is that even though the class is delivered remotely, a class is still a class and should be taken as seriously as any other class you have ever attended. This is a key takeaway if you want to have the same results or even better, with online learning.

Do's and Dont's for efficient online learning:

DO

  1. Have a quiet study place and make it your regular study place. this will help you stay organized and make sure you have everything available such as an internet connection, books, materials, handbooks, pencil, headphones.
  2. Keep yourself accountable. You have access to teachers and they do give you feedback and are there for you, but making sure you set goals for yourself and check them to see the progress its important.
  3. Show up. Having online courses does not mean you can skip any of them. If you do not have live sessions make sure you set a schedule to be in line with your needs and follow it.
  4. Actively engage. Learning is done best when you participate in the online course by asking questions, asking feedback, giving feedback, engaging with other classmates, emailing your teacher whenever you feel like there is something that you do not understand.
  5. Eliminate distractions. We have all been there, whether it was about work or school, distractions can be a pain if you are not used to ignoring them. So until getting used to them and being able to focus with them around, just eliminate wherever can distract you - mobile phones, social media, TV. With time, you will be able to focus better no matter the distractions around you.

DONT'S

  1. The online classes kind of have the same rules as offline - that is don't interrupt when someone is speaking.
  2. Do not leave the microphone on the entire class as it may cause disruptions. Turn it on whenever you want to engage.
  3. Do not perceive online learning as a game. Take it as seriously as possible as it will help you self-motivate, plan and manage effectively.?

Making sure you receive this change with open arms, even though you did not choose it, will surely help you get accustomed to the online learning system better as far as learning, platform usage, interactions and engagement concerns.
