TIPS TO DEFEND AGAINST "THE CON"

Tips to defend against "The Con"

1) Tell the story.?Take the time to write down the story of the entire?con?as you understand it from how it started for you until now.?

2) Check the story.??When you get information from?someone do not accept it right away.?Ask for confirmation. Cross reference. Ask to speak to a supervisor.?Ask specific questions about who and where this information is coming from.?

3) Be cognitive.?Ask yourself if this is the only possible version of the story??Are there any other possible versions??Are there versions that might be more likely??

4) Document, document, document.??Save any information that you have related to the con and put it in one place somewhere you can get to it so you can access it if you need it.?

5) Tell others.??This is an essential piece.?"Cons" typically work best in an environment?of total secrecy. They depend on you not sharing with others or getting outside opinions.?If you are too worried to tell the story straight then try: "Hey, this is happening to a friend of mine. What do you think they should do?"??

6) Try to be logical.?Cons tend to prey on your emotions - particularly on your fear.?Ask yourself some basic questions: "Does this sound legal?"?"Does this seem right?"?"Could someone get hurt as a result of my actions?"

7) Don't worry?about?how you got in; worry?about how to get out.??Most cons will hook you by asking you to participate in a way that you implicate yourself in a way such that you will feel that revealing them will reveal your own wrongdoing.?But the longer you wait the deeper you sink.?Start doing the right thing sooner rather than later.?

8) Assume there will be legal consequences.??Always assume that there will be legal consequences and at some point you will be asked to testify in open court.?Always ask yourself how would your words or actions sound said out of context in a court of law.?Could you properly defend all the questions a judge might ask you??

9) Confidential.??The word "confidential" should be a red flashing light with a siren.?If something is confidential then why are they telling you about it??If you ask a question and the answer is?confidential?then beware.?Good guys do not ask citizens to keep secrets for them...ever.
