A Cooler Hiring Pace
The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) July 2024 jobs report showed employers added 114,000 jobs and the national unemployment rate increased to 4.3%. Dow Jones estimated job growth would total 185,000. To compare, the July 2023 report showed the job market gained 187,000 jobs and had a 3.5% unemployment rate.
The BLS also reported previous job report totals were downwardly revised. Job growth in May 2024 changed from 218,000 to 216,000 and June 2024’s total updated from 206,000 to 179,000.
Integrating a contingent workforce into hiring practices is a key strategy for many organizations aiming to remain agile during shifting market conditions. Rose International had a month-over-month increase in total job openings with the highest number of available jobs seen in the IT, business professional and admin/clerical categories.
