Tips for Building & Selling a Successful Tech Company

Tips for Building & Selling a Successful Tech Company

While luck had very little to do with building the world-leading company in hotel guest intelligence and being acquired by Shiji, luck did turn out to have a lot to do with the timing of the sale. On December 16th, 2019, I fully exited ReviewPro and decided to take time off.?

Traveling the world for a year was cut down at the knees by COVID in March 2020, but I was fortunate to make it back from Asia in time to spend the lockdown with my son Alex.??During 2020 and 2021, I have focused on a number of personal interests as well as invested in and advised some interesting companies. Recently, I have been asked to present my entrepreneurial story in front of an MBA class at one of the top schools in the world.? In preparing the talk, I reread the deck for the last Town Hall I led for ReviewPro, which was titled “The End of an Era & Beginning of a New One", and was reminded of some of the key factors of our success.

I would like to share two parts of this presentation that I hope will be helpful to any new entrepreneur or CEO struggling to ignite growth on a global scale and increase not only revenue, but also profitability. The following is just a framework, the real challenge is how do you make it happen. If you would like to discuss how I can help your organization realize its full potential, reach out to me via DM and let's talk.

10 Key Things I Learned

10. ????Know your number

?9. ????1 clear leader & 1 “mortal” enemy

?8.?????Team. Advisors. Board. Lawyers. Bankers.

?7.?????You’re always selling

?6.?????Important to do things 100% right, 100% of the time, the first time

?5. ?????Focus & say no

?4.?????A great product is easier to build than sell

?3.?????You’ll thrive or die depending on your processes

?2.?????Good news / bad news

?1. ?????D.E.F.G.U. (Don’t Ever F’ing Give Up)

?Why We Succeeded

???????Clear vision, goals & objectives

???????Energy, passion & drive

???????Obsession to build great products that had a measurable impact on our clients business

???????Culture built on transparency, honesty & trust

???????Good at identifying problems early, “circling the wagons”, prioritizing alternatives & executing improvements

???????D.E.F.G.U in our blood!!

Fantastic list and it would be very interesting to hear the anecdotes behind each one of the hard-earned lessons. (As an alternative to enrolling in that MBA class, I will buy you some drinks.)
