Tips for being a better pro in 2025

If you’re like me, you may have a few vices that help you to be a better professional. One of mine is a decent run outside. This is the best time of year for a jog in Texas, especially if you’re heat intolerant. I ran a couple miles this morning (the temperature was 26 degrees outside.) When it’s the two percent of calendar days in Texas when it actually feels like winter, take that run outside, but keep these few precautions in mind:

·????? Cover your ears, but pay attention. No matter how little I bundle up to run, I always cover my ears. It's not worth the cool breeze induced ear ache. Also, this seems obvious, but do not run over snowy paths if there may be ice beneath. As much as you may hate the treadmill, it’s not worth a TBI or a trip to the chiropractor.

·????? Wear good foot gear. Monitor how many miles your shoes actually go – and replace them when the arch support requires retirement. We all have that pair of good old tennis shoes we just love. But “comfy” doesn’t equal "good for your feet." There’s more on this, a ton of it, online.

·????? The good news is you might burn more calories when it’s cold. But be safe. Here is what cold weather does to the body and how you can prepare.

I love running because I can turn my brain off, something I don’t get to do as often as I would like. I get into a rhythm. I feel like the cold wind goes in, and hot air comes out. And heck, the fact that running makes me sleep better is a bonus.

Great ideas! I didn’t know you were a runner. Way to go!
