Tips To Avoid LinkedIn Burnout

Tips To Avoid LinkedIn Burnout

Welcome 2022 - We are off and racing.

Can you believe we are one month into this year already? Time certainly does seem to fly. For some people, trying to keep up already feels overwhelming. There are so many new LinkedIn features, not to mention other social media platforms. Oh, hang on, don't forget you also run a business.

I heard the other day that LinkedIn will have about 60 updates in 2021. That's a lot of changes and new features for businesses to keep up with. It's very easy to get distracted by the next shiny object that LinkedIn releases.

Before you go jumping into Linkedin Audio, LinkedIn Lives, LinkedIn Newsletters etc it's important to stop and assess each and how they relate back to your LinkedIn strategy and business goals. I see many people suffer from social media burnout trying to keep up, and worse still, they aren't getting results.

I recently watched a really great LinkedIn Live presentation by the LinkedIn Marketing Solutions team. You can catch the replay here .

One of the topics they covered was the "Rule of 78". I have to admit when they first mentioned the "Rule of 78" I had flashbacks to my 20-year-old self working for Holden Finance manually calculating car lease payout figures. But I digress.

What is the Rule of 78?

If you are unfamiliar with the term Rule of 78 this is a super simplification.

  1. The "78" comes from adding the digits one through to twelve for the months of the year.
  2. It applies if you have customers that all pay the same recurring amount each month starting with one in January, and then one new client each month after that, without losing any business along the way it will add up to 78.

A working example to help explain things - if your clients pay $1000 per month every month, the first client in January will annually bring in $12,000, the second in February will be $11,000 annually and so on. Your total will be $78,000 at the end of the year.

Put simply - do the work now so you don't get caught at the end of the year scrambling from behind and trying to play catch up to meet your goals. MJR

What Is Your LinkedIn Strategy For Your Business?

I have to admit that when I set out to start my own business around 18 months ago, I skipped the digital strategy and planning step. I was essentially focused only on finding anyone that would pay me. Yes, I had an idea that I had roughly delved into and thought that it would work, but beyond that, it was flying by the seat of my pants.

Yes, my intuition served me well, and I don't want to squash that, but certain lessons I learned in 2021 will make me a better business owner in 2022.

Some of these lessons that have come from not having implemented a formal LinkedIn Strategy -

  • You need a strategy around targeting your ideal clients. If you don't do this you waste time sorting through enquiries or end up working with clients that aren't the right fit (sometimes this is putting it nicely).
  • Without a strategy, you tend to say yes to everything that comes your way. While this can be flattering, it may not move your business forward to where you want it to be.
  • Not having a strategy that translates down into goals for me meant that often I felt like I hadn't achieved much at all. Whilst logically, this wasn't the case, having goals and the satisfaction that comes with the big tick of DONE would have helped.

Having a clear strategy allows you to prioritise your time and focus. Decision making becomes very easy when you have clarity and you can take the fastest route to your goals. A great way to avoid burnout.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify

Recently I sat down with Tuomo Vauhkonen . Tuomo's coaching business offers "Performance & Lifestyle Optimization for High Achievers by Energy & Focus Management".

Tuomo shared so many of his insights into performance and mastery. One of the key takeaways for me was that to achieve mastery we need to simplify, simplify and simplify.

Often, we make things complicated so that they look good from the outside. The system is designed that way. To paraphrase Tuomo, if we simplified and focused on mastery, we would achieve much more.

Ways to Simplify Your LinkedIn Strategy

  • Frequency of posting content - are you burning out trying to do too much?
  • Batching Content - consider using a content scheduler so that you can create in batches. It's much easier to create when you are in the zone and free from algorithm "best times". B2B Growth Co recommends Social Pilot .
  • Which LinkedIn Tools are Best for You? - don't let LinkedIn distract you from your business goals with their shiny new toys. First, stop and ask - is this taking me toward or away from my business goals?

Look for ways you can simplify your processes and focus on mastery. Always be the student looking to learn more. Ensure that your actions are aligned with your business goals and not just being busy for busy's sake.

When our most precious resource "time" is at a premium, you have to work smart. It is worth taking time out at the beginning of 2022 to create your strategy. This will ensure that you achieve the results for your business that will make the most difference in the most efficient way.

Make 2022 the year you aren't just busy being busy and avoid LinkedIn burnout. Picture December 2022 when you are looking back to this time proud of everything you have achieved.

Don't leave taking action until October and then end up in a mad scramble as you realise time is fast running out.

The good news is—you don't have to reinvent the wheel to get there. B2B Growth Co can work with your business one-on-one to create a tailored LinkedIn strategy that aligns with your business goals.

We will put together a plan to get you there in the most efficient way possible.

Cheers
