Writing personality is a real thing. Writing personality is quite similar to your everyday personality, except this personality is your 'Writing Style.'
When a content is created with 'personality' and 'emotion' it creates a much more desired effect with the audience. It is then that they come back to read your content again and again.
Your 'writing style' becomes your personality, and trade mark.
Your 'Writing Style Personality' becomes your BRAND.
It is your writing style which appeals to the audience. You audience will read your work, only and only if they can connect with it. Therefore, adding personality into your writing is very important.
14 TIPS TO ADD PERSONALITY TO YOUR WRITING STYLE
- Tell a story : Storytelling is quite popular among the audience. Even if you are writing a B2B content, explain in a simple words, weave a story, which will keep your audience attentive, and they will keep on reading. Tell your readers about your experience, how you over came something. Tell them about your struggle, and then your win. Connect with your audience with your stories.
- Evoke an emotional response: Like I have mentioned it earlier, evoking emotional response from your audience is very important. Bring out any emotion that you want, whether it's happiness, sadness, anger, anticipation, or any other human emotion that it required.
- Ask rhetorical questions: Ask a question to the audience. Tell them your point of view, and ask them their's. This will increase audience interaction, and at the same time, you will be able to create a connection with your readers.
- Improving your vocabulary: This is quite a debatable topic. But, what I mean is that, use better words to your writing, make it attractive, instinctive, imaginative. Make your readers involved in your writing with your words.
- Select an intriguing topic: When you are ready to write. Choose a topic, which will allow you to connect with your audience. The writing is yours, yes ! But, it belongs to the readers. Do not hesitate to experiment with your style, your topics, and the feelings.
- Research your content: This I personally believe is very important. Always and I mean Always, research your topic. Yes, it's possible that you are an expert in a particular area, however, there is always room for more improvements. A writer needs to keep learning everyday. You cannot be rigid.
- Add facts to your content: Adding facts, and statistics gives authenticity to your writing. If your topic requires one, make sure that you add it. Show a graph, a research. However, remember to give credit to the original researcher, blogger, writer, who so ever it may be.
- Talk to your audience: While you are writing, make sure that you write in a similar manner as if you are communicating with your audience. It is very important how you write. Feel free to try new style, however, once you have found your style, I would recommend you stick to it, and keep on enhancing it.
- Read, Read and Read: I highly recommend reading to every writer, blogger, entrepreneur..to read. Reading opens a whole wide world, in front of you. Reading also allows you to understand the writing style of others, and hence, allowing you to improve yours.
- Don't be a grammar nazi: This is once again quite debatable. But, I will tell go on with it. Every person has a different style, and way of communicating. If he/she is able to find their audience then why not! Stopping because of grammar is limiting yourself, which I do not stand for. If you want to write, if you have a story to tell..then go ahead. Do not let little things stand on your way. We all start from somewhere, and we all learn.
- Put your point of view: Voice out your opinion to the audience. If you believe in something you believe in it..if you don't then you don't!! Everyone has a right to their opinion, and as a writer, you are the voice which will echo. Stand for your believe, your point of view (I strictly mean the positive ones. Don't take it against me) ??
- Know your audience: Niche your writing down. I know it might be difficult at the start, but steadily you need to do it. You cannot write for everyone, and you must remember that. There I people out there who do not like Harry Potter !! Sign !! I am a total potterhead. ?? But what I mean is, some will like your writing, your story, your ideas, and some will not. Accept it, and don't be a Jughead !! Know your audience and write for them.
- Format your content: Once you have written your content, make sure that you structure, format it and then edit it, and proofread it. Make sure that before you publish your work, it is well organised for your readers. Having a good write-up but not edited, constructed and formatted properly, leaves the audience with a bad taste, and some might not return back.
- Be authentic: Be you, when you are writing. This way the audience and the readers will connect with you. Do not copy the trend. There is a thin line between copying someone blindly and taking inspiration from someone. If someone who inspires you says they like Orange, don't blindly say you like orange too, when the fact is that you prefer strawberries. Be authentic, Be you. And, you will see how people will accept you. You will always find your Tribe. Be confident in your abilities.
'Add your own point of view to the content with a twist of lemon.'
