Tipping the scales
This #CeatlFriday our Authors’ Rights Working Group gives an update on the good work they’re doing.
?
Knowledge is a powerful tool, especially when you’re the weaker party in any negotiation. This is why the Authors’ Rights WG is very active in exchanging information. One way they do this is via large-scale surveys and disseminating the results.
?
One example is the legal survey from 2021-2022, held among representatives of translators’ associations in 27 countries: https://www.ceatl.eu/publication-of-ceatls-legal-survey-results-mapping-the-legal-situation-of-literary-translators-in-europe . A mammoth task, but a very important one!
?
In addition, the WG held its first webinar on the findings of the legal survey in February 2023, which you may watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaQ0Bf15xto . Because the legal landscape is always going to present challenges for translators, the Authors’ Rights WG is there for European associations to provide support and information on what can and should be done, and to receive feedback on the most alarming matters.
