Tipping Point - U.S. Policing and Technology
Sickening.?Preventable.??Many shared these two thoughts after seeing the fatal beating of Tyree Nichols, at the hands of an “Elite Unit” of a Metropolitan Police Department.
One thing is certain, the U.S. is well overdue in accelerating reforms and updates to how police are trained, monitored, and perform their duties.
In this horrific case, technology was critical in providing retrospective footage via body cams and surveillance videos; however, we need to advance the adoption of newer technology quickly and ask how to better leverage:
Make no mistake, technology makes strategy possible, and the first step to fixing this problem is to hire the right people and use great leadership to create a supportive and accountable environment.?
I've had the chance to work in the public sector, and I have a lot of respect for the agency and department heads who are truly trying to help their citizens by learning more about technology and using it to improve their organizations.?
Let’s hope that this tragedy serves to accelerate much-needed change ASAP.

2 年As a wrestler, it always amazes me how often in these tragic situations police officers seem poorly trained to simply subdue someone and zip tie them up. Having lived in DC, I would like to see drones that follow politicians around in and out of "meetings".

2 年Police training in VR/AR would be interesting to test…with sufficient development resources, story writing and dialog you could create realistic and challenging scenarios that otherwise couldn’t be trained for, keeping officers more levelheaded IRL. That might also contribute to reducing brutality.
