"People bend over backwards to have a meeting with me!!"

In life, we will encounter individuals who use their power and authority to put others down. It's easy to get caught up in the moment and let these individuals control our lives, but it's important to remember that we have a choice. We can either let these individuals dictate our lives or we can take control and make our own decisions.

One of the most crucial lessons I learned in my professional life was the importance of standing up for myself. When my manager scheduled a one-on-one meeting at 8 am, an hour before my usual start time, I knew that I had to speak up. I politely asked if we could reschedule the meeting due to my wife's pregnancy and the long commute we had to make together. Unfortunately, my manager responded with a sarcastic comment about how "people bend over backwards to have a meeting with him," followed by other derogatory statements.

Despite the belittling comments, I knew that I had to stand my ground. I refused to let my manager control me or dictate my life. Instead, I took the brave step of resigning from my job, even though I didn't have a new job lined up, with a new baby on the way and a mortgage to pay.

This decision was not an easy one, but it was the right one. It taught me the importance of taking control of my own life and making decisions that align with my values and beliefs. As Jordan Peterson says, "Stand up straight with your shoulders back," meaning that we should stand up for ourselves and be confident in who we are. By doing so, we can create a better life for ourselves and those around us.

In the end, I landed a new job with a significant salary increase, and I learned an important lesson about leadership. Leaders should lead by example, and true leadership involves empathy and understanding. It's important to treat others with respect and kindness, rather than using power and authority to put them down.
