Tip of the Tongue - What happens in our brain when we almost remember something?

We all know the situation: We want to say a specific term, it is clear to us what we want to say, but something is stuck and we cannot seem to recall the term (" wait, wait give me second .. I almost got it”).

It turns out that if we want to help the student who is unable to remember something, it is important that we won't reveal the answer. If we do, we might increase the chances of the student getting stuck again in a similar situation in the future. The only way to avoid this is to provide an initial clue (the first letters of the term, for example).
Don't you want to help the learners who try to remember and recall something? Don't give away the answer so fast. Give the students short bits of clues and enable them to build a lasting memory.
