TiP TiG Pipe But Weld Preparation

TiP TiG Hotwire All in One Wire Feeder

https://tiptig-international.com/

Key issue here is the weld preparation to be clean, uniform "TiP TiG is also very good on high low bridging "as where our tungsten goes the filler wire goes". We normally recommend on a pipe start from STD to 16mm wall V Groove use a root face 1 - 1.5mm and not feather the edge. Feather edges create keyholes which sometimes get out of control and become just to big and lead also to access root penetration which you not really like to have and also sometimes are restricted by code and often more strict range by customers specification.

Start from 16mm we recommend to use if possible a J Groove Custom design or you follow ASME B16.25, or as per your welding Engineer instructions.

T my personal humble opinion the codes and standards always a bit behind the technologies which can do better and are more economical. However the code's also allows you to make your own optimized geometry as long you can prove with your PQR that you meet minimum required standards.

The right selected weld bevel can also safe you time and money and it should be discussed with production and Welding Engineer what is the most suitable one for your equipment.

The Root face or also called lend helps to have and get a uniform root and not have to much of root access penetration.

CRA Pipe 4" +4mm Cladded

This goes for any pipe but weld joint we just used that size to have a good illustration

Inconel 625 wire 0.9mm root gap 3mm

You like to have a uniform root penetration all the way. Once you stop if you have to have enough and sufficient material to feder the end and good start to continue and finish your weld

Feather the tack weld and start and stop all times

Feather your start and stopp all times. Its actually what every welder was told when he went to hes welding training class and i am sure when he makes hes WQ he always do because he likes to pass the test. In reality it shows me also the welders personal professionalism and discipline.

Make good tacks

Make good tacks and we recommend to make them minimum an inch or a bit lomger. Some specification want allow you to tack in the weld area and its requested to have bullets / inserts tacked.

Tack weld root side

Length of Tack when used as a part of the weld should be around or not less than one inch so you have sufficent material for the feather edge preparation and also fuse / wash the start and stop nice to have a sound transition.

Tack weld transition

Sound transition start stop which can be checked through the gap while making the root pass.

6 G 4 to 8 O Clock

An than there you go all the way finish your root and ensure inter pass is clean free of any slack which may occur also from the welding wire and most of the time surface. The can be easy cleaned by a good brush / or rotating wire brush or a grinder if required. Ensure you have the right grinding disc on your grinder. I know its basics but i hade boys they did not use the right one and were asked to cut and do the weld again and is can have impacts on materials such as SS, Duplex or Super Duplex. Make sure the grinder / Disk is ok.

Its a demo mock up

It's a demo mock up and not a production weld. It was prepared in presence of a client who decided to use the TiP TiG All in one for hes CRA Inconel Caldded but welds and fittings.

The client was satisfied on Quality and productivity "3 x times faster than conventional manual TiG".

First Units are running after two day introduction and welder training at their works.

CS Pipe 16mm wall

This is a tack weld made with TiP TiG on a 16mm wall CS Pipe.

Root Pass with TiP TiG Automated Process

Some Root pass on SS Material CS and Inconel Cladded CRA Pipe but with Automated process it works on all weldable materials and we have more ranges on Automated process from Open root to closed root gap's.

The illustrated information is based on our experience and expertise which works best for us and our Customers.

I hope i could introduce how it works for us and our clients. We are here to support the Industry and our clients to delivery first class Quality work which we are proud to represent.
