Tip for new start to your meeting
Want your participants to connect to the meeting purpose and energize the room?
And an added benefit…. It’s a way to explore why meeting participants showed up for the meeting.
Here’s a tip for starting your meeting… it’s actually an exercise and it will change the tone of your meeting from the outset.
Try this #LiberatingStructures
Well, this is a riff on Impromptu Networking to serve the purpose of exploration as to shared understanding.
- Share this prompt: “Why are you here (at this meeting)? What do you hope to get from and give to others at this meeting?â€
- Pair up: each person speaks their thoughts to the prompt for 2 minutes each, total of 4 minutes.
- Find a new partner: each person speaks their thoughts to the prompt for 2 minutes each, total of 4 minutes.
- Find a new partner for a 3rd round: each person speaks their thoughts to the prompt for 2 minutes each, total of 4 minutes.
? The repetition of 3 rounds is magic and helps zero in on clarity.
A couple additional things to you can do…
领英推è
- Invite a sampling of people to share what emerged for them.
- Invite participants to write what emerged by their 3rd round conversation. No names, submit anonymously, for you to review the input at a later time, i.e., how well do they know why they are meeting; are there other reasons they show up for your meeting. The findings can help shape your meeting purpose and your pre-meeting communications. Go ahead and tell them that their input is helpful for such adjustments.
The answers will likely surprise you. And the exercise will sharpen participants’ attention.
Plus, I love the second part of the prompt because it helps participants to see themselves in the meeting.
Please share via DM to me or in comments below how this works for you. I’d love to hear.
