Tip of the Iceberg.

Tip of the Iceberg.

For any new readers, you can check out some of the previous stuff we’ve put out here.

The problem with the job market at the moment is that too many people approach it solely focussed on what is happening???????????.?

It’s either people who want to be here and they want to be here now, or people that have been impacted by lay-offs find themselves in need of a quick resolution.?

Whatever the approach it’s a super tactical one and led by one-time actions that neglect what might be coming around the corner.

Think about it.

Applying to a job on LinkedIn only puts you in consideration for that one role that is available in the market at that given date.

What about the day after tomorrow? Or the day after that?

I know the LinkedIn platform better than most and what most people don’t realise is that 99% of the time it operates completely independently from any CRM have a company might have.?

If you apply to a role with a company through LinkedIn, it’s not going to keep you on file for future roles that might come up within the same organization.?

So what’s the solution and how do we approach this?

My take would be to shift your approach from trying to get ahold of what is available right now to putting yourself in contention for what is going to be available both now and also over the new few months.

Rome wasn't built in a day and the GCC markets are notorious for moving at their own (usually slower) pace.

I’ve mentioned on here before about an interview process I facilitated that started in February and ended with an offer being extended in October. That’s unusual, but not uncommon.

What we want to do is adopt a more strategic mindset that makes u part of a network and keep our application on file for future consideration from a company or any other roles that might be available on the?hidden?job market.

We want this because there are more jobs????????advertised than there are live on LinkedIn at any given moment.

What you have access to on Job Boards or LinkedIn is the absolute tip of the iceberg of what’s available.?

To advertise online is costly and inefficient for companies.?

They’d much rather leverage their own network (with the added benefit of social proof) and headhunt directly than have to sift through hundreds of applicants.?

From your side, to tap into this, you need to be:

??Building out a network and attending as many F2F events as possible to put yourself front of mind.

??Approaching people with the intention of getting to know them rather than asking? 'can you get me a job?'?

??Engaging regularly on Industry Leaders content and making yourself visible in the market.

It might not be apparent in how it pays off in the short term, but I would argue that most of the tactical approaches that people take will not ever pay-off.?

You would much rather be front of mind for multiple positions likely to be released over time than one singular role advertised via a Job Advert.

These connections are also invaluable in the sense that even if there isn’t anything live at the moment that matches your profile - who’s to say there won’t be around the corner.

Pursuing higher quality, long-term actions is what's going to pull you into frame for those.

You want to be a long-term option that’s the first to be called when the time comes rather than constantly restarting your search from ground zero.
