Tip of the Day Tuesday- Share a Post on LinkedIn
Even though you may have done something many times before it is always good to refresh your mind by revisiting with fresh eyes. Today, I’m going to break down how to do a post on LinkedIn.
As with many social media platforms, you are able to share posts as a feature when you create a profile. LinkedIn has expanded its capabilities to share photos, videos, events & even write articles. You can share a post by heading to your home feed.
You’ll see your profile picture as an icon with a field with a prompt that states ‘Start a post’. You can select this field and then begin creating your post. A new window will appear that will prompt you to begin with the question “What do you want to talk about?” You may want to share a new project or update that you have experienced in your professional life.?
At the top of the window you have the option to select who you are posting as which can be your individual profile or the pages that you have editing or administrative privileges for.
Once you have selected who you would like to post as you can then select who you would like to see this post. You can select ‘Anyone’, ‘Anyone + Twitter’, Connections only or Group members which allows you to select from which groups you are in.?
Now- let’s get down to business to create your post. You can begin typing in the given field. You can add a link to a webpage you would like to share. You can add a picture. You can add a video. You can curate your post to your heart's content in order to make it what you would like to share with your connections and potential audience you may reach.
Along with being able to share photos and videos, you are also able to add a document, celebrate an occasion, share that you’re hiring and find an expert. These are great options to have depending on how you or your business are deciding to approach your LinkedIn experience.
One of the options that I appreciate that has been added is the ability to create hashtags on your post that can help you reach a wider audience. I encourage you to think of hashtags as a searchable digital filing system. Each hashtag you use for a post adds you to the digital filing drawer along with all the other posts that have used that same hashtag. This makes them very useful for you to use to help file your post away in categories you hope people will find it. Hashtags are very useful for connecting with fellow industry professionals in discussions on topics you have personal experience in or you would like to learn more about.
Now that you have created your post- here comes almost everyone's favorite step- hitting that post button. Once you share your post, it will then appear in other user’s feeds who are connected with you along with others who may be interested and following along with the same topics you are discussing. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Once your post is published and live, other users are now able to read, react and comment on it.?
When you are creating a post to share, the keyword that should resonate with you from that is ‘share’. You’re sharing an image or video. You’re sharing an event. You’re sharing an article. You’re sharing your experiences, lessons learned, knowledge, opinions and so much more. Make sure before you hit that post button on this social media network that was designed to help establish a community for professionals and those who are making their way through the career side of their life, you keep in mind that whatever you are sharing should try to stay in that realm of expectations.
