Reactive power compensators are used to control power-factor as well as to regulate the voltage.

When it is used to regulate the voltage, it controls only the magnitude at the bus and phase angle varies continuously with load current.

The purely reactive power compensators cannot maintain both constant voltage and unity power factor at the same time.

One has to decide priority depending upon load and process requirements.
