TOO MANY FACTS IS NOT A SPEECH!
?
We know a lot of stuff.?
Sometimes --if we're nervous we think we have to dazzle people with how much we know!?
Give 'em the old razzle-dazzle?
WRONG!
It's like eating the Whole Chocolate Cake --TOO MUCH!
?
Stories need Facts and Facts need Stories to give them context.
Choose facts & stories by remembering your GOAL for speaking (Tip 78)?
?
Telling a story just to look clever or stuffing your talk with lot of facts
?just distracts from your goal and overwhelms your audience.
?
RESIST THE URGE TO REPORT
Choose to SPEAK!
#smartestguyintheroomsyndrom? = The smartest guy in the room is automatically the dumbest guy in the room.
Choose A Fact and Illustrate with Meaning
Choose ONE or TWO interesting or surprising facts you want to explore in the time you have.
Maybe there's one myth you can bust in 5 minutes?
or a couple of pieces of data when fit together like a jigsaw reveal a bigger picture. Or better yet create a contrasting picture.
Leave the audience satisfied not saturated.
