Tip #7: The Add-On Trick

Tip #7: The Add-On Trick

Whenever I've tried to learn something new lately, I've always ended up asking ChatGPT first.

If I ever need ChatGPT to explain anything to me in simpler or more accessible terms, here are four clauses I add to the end of my prompts to enhance the output:

  1. Explain using analogy.
  2. Explain to me like I'm 5 years old.
  3. Explain from first principle.
  4. Walk me through it step by step.

As you can already tell, there are a lot more clauses like this that you can use. These are some of the more popular ones.

Because of the fact that these clauses can be appended to regular prompts, I like to call them "add-ons".

THINK LEGOS

Think of them as Lego bricks that you can add on top of a Lego structure just to give it more "pizzaz.

You know what's even better? You can stack addons on each other. Here's an example:

PLEASE NOTE:

This is not a proof that the higher you stack prompt add-ons, the better your results. Hence, iteration. One key part of being a prompt engineer is constantly testing better, more concise ways to get quality responses.

TRY IT OUT

Try it out for yourself. Ask the GPT to explain something to you from first principle. Or ask it to explain something like you're a 10th grader. Or do both! Remember to save your prompts and iterate on them later.

See you tomorrow.
