Tip #13: Use micro-interactions to spice up the mundane tasks that bankers perform

Tip #13:?Tasks such as making payments and checking account balances can become enjoyable -- and maybe even fun -- by spicing up the UI with micro-interactions.

Any digital interface that your customers view will be compared to other digital interfaces that customer interacts with.

That means the bar is high for design, user experience, functionality, concision, and usability.?

Micro-interactions provide a touch of class to routine tasks, giving your bank a little something extra to show customers your attention.

Micro-interactions can be used across apps, websites, products, applications, and even kiosks to not only keep people moving, interested and engaged, but make a splashy brand impression. A few ideas for where you might implement micro-interactions:

  • Animate account balances with rolling digits
  • Animate spending path charts
  • Interactive timelines for financial goals
  • Illustrate a P2P transaction when customers use Zelle or BNPL
  • Add movement to money transfers to show there is something happening
  • Pop earned rewards or offers off of the page (use changing scale, rotation, etc.)
  • Recognize when users perform actions (reach out to you, complete an application, etc) through appearing, moving, or transitioning icons
  • Use a modal-based call out for budgeting support or tips
  • Biometric login (FaceID, fingerprint)
  • Dissolve, slide, or fade new pages in/out
  • Load screen and/or transition animations
  • Animated progress bars so users know the application isn't frozen while something is processing
  • Sleek accordion menus

With any of these ideas, a key is not to?over-design. Microinteractions should enhance the experience while making things easier.

If your team wants to experiment with new animations, movement, and other designed micro-interactions, our agency is using some very cool tools to prototype it all out and we'd love to collaborate; feel free to reach out to me.
