You've seen them everywhere, from HGTV to Netflix. Tiny homes are a recent housing trend that has rocked the nation, with many wondering if they're here to stay. I have the lowdown on these cozy spaces in my newest blog post, but here are some of the highlights you have to know.
What is a "Tiny House?"
Well, that depends on who you ask! The most agreed-upon definition of a tiny home is a residence less than 1,000 square feet. However, some homes can be even smaller per the homeowner's request. Many of these pint-sized abodes are custom built, but don't be fooled—they still cost hundreds of thousands less than a conventional house.
One of the biggest factors of a tiny home is whether or not it's towable. Some homeowners that don't want to settle down choose a towable tiny house—it literally lets them see the world from their backyard! However, some may opt for a stationary home for more space and features, such as full sized appliances or porches.
Who Buys Tiny Homes?
Believe it or not, tiny homes are a great option for all stages of life. Many baby boomers are choosing this alternative lifestyle for the low cost and ability to travel during retirement. However, millennials also love these spaces because of their affordability and smaller carbon footprint.
Tiny homes are fantastic for those who wish to pare down their life and get back to basics. It's also a stellar option if you can't choose just one place to settle down, making it perfect for those who always want to be on the go.
What are the Benefits?
Some may think tiny home living is a big sacrifice, but as they become a mainstream trend, that's no longer the case. Tiny homes are simply spaces that have a less conventional layout than a standard home.
Other benefits include low-cost living, the ability to move at a moment's notice, and being able to travel cheaply.
