Tiny heroes that will shape the future
We are living in tough times, Covid19 is still spreading across the world and in many countries healthcare systems are risking to collapse with all the doctors, nurses and the whole medical staff working restlessly day and nights to save lives.
Essential service producers are equally making the difference to guarantee that all the people have access, or can receive, through tireless delivery workers, the required goods: medicines, water, food and yes, even toilet paper.
Benefactors are popping up everywhere, from some of the richest men in the world funding vaccine researches to the heart minded social influencers donating millions to hospitals, from the clever entrepreneur 3-D printing required healthcare components to few companies distributing AI algorithm in opensource to enable people tracking.
To contain, fight and win this pandemic (we will, our indomitable human spirit have the strongest ally on our side: science), governments have rightfully imposed quarantines and restricted movements throughout the population across cities, provinces and countries.
Video calls, social surfing, online classes and remote working solutions are made available like never before to provide alternatives and compensate the lack of physical interaction in the various aspects of our daily personal and professional lives.
Adults are worried about jobs due to the negative economic impact that this situation will generate where, first time ever, we are seeing a slow down of both demand and supply that will severely impact GDP growth.
In this exceptional situation we, as parents, brothers, sisters or siblings, should always keep in our minds the presence of small individuals that, most of the time, don’t whine, cry nor even complain, they adapt, sustain and frequently support us: kids!
We should all make a promise to ourselves to frequently step back from the chaos and, with smiling eyes above the mask on our faces, read a book together, write a brand new story with them, play together giving names to the waves and above all listen to their ideas and imagine together the great future for all of these “tiny heroes” that, with their incredible patience and strength, are the main reason for which we should all make this world a better place.
While talking with my kids about actual situation and the future, I've experienced first hand their abilities to filter digital information better than many adults, I've heard out-of-the-box ideas to make labs work together from around the world, I loved their comic based messages to made everyone aware of the importance of doctors and nurses, I heard them talking about alternative energy sources to reduce pollution and I've seen them imagine future classes were teachers from other continents would appear in their local schools as holograms to share experiences.
By listening to these tiny heroes, you will be surprised by their thoughts and - after sharing their ideas - I'm sure we will all agree that from this unprecedent experience we'll learn and grow to further strengthen and fortify ours and theirs indomitable spirit!
thanks for sharing, Teo
