Tiny change...or is it?

Here's an example of how careful companies should be, even with seemingly minor changes.

In its recent update for Windows 11, Microsoft has decided to combine its Copilot (AI assistant) into the main Taskbar and disable (by default) the "Show Desktop" button.

As a result, the good old button was no longer present. (To restore, users need to change the settings now.).

Many users noticed the missing feature and began wondering what had happened to it.

Habits are difficult to break. They are integrated into our daily routine.

Many of us use this shortcut button so frequently throughout the day, that we don't even notice our use of it, because it has become so automatic for us. We aren't even aware of it.

However, when a habit of ours breaks, somehow, we notice it, if not right away, then very quickly. And this is exactly what happened: The button's disappearance was immediately noticed.

When businesses consider making changes, especially those that own products that are integrated into our daily lives, they must carefully consider the consequences and ask themselves:

1. How many users use this feature?

2. Does the feature work well for our users?

3. What benefit(s) will the change bring to our users?

4. What will our users lose if we make this change?

5. What are the alternatives?

And then:

6. Let’s test the change

Make sure you're not taking from your users something that didn't need to be changed in the first place.

BTW, here is the way to restore the button:

Taskbar Settings > Taskbar Behaviour > Check: Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop,

and it's back ??
