IS TINPLATE MORE LIKELY TO HAVE DOUBLE SHEETS THAN ALUMINUM SHEETS?

The answer is FALSE. It’s the opposite. With tinplate, you can use spreader magnets that separate the sheets at the edges. This means that no doubles could form at the early phase of canmaking. Aluminum sheets do not use these magnets which make it vulnerable for doubles.

Another reason is that tinplate is stiff and does not deform when it is sucked by the vacuum cups during stacking. With aluminum, the sheet under the vacuum cup deforms into a kind of “cup” itself causing it to pick up the second sheet.
