Times and Seasons- A Reflection

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant. If we did not taste adversity, then prosperity would not be so welcome. ANNE BRADSTREET

Today when I opened my Facebook page, I found so many people who live in the parts of the world that have 4 distinct seasons had posted wonderful, excited photos of the beginning of another season- Spring!  It meant they had endured Winter, as they looked forward to the coming of Spring.

This got me thinking and googling about the 4 seasons and what they mean to our daily lives; How do they relate to the happenings of our lives?

I discovered that we long for spring for we associate it with growth, life and birth;

We love Summer for its a time for celebration, happiness, and a sort of everyday cheerfulness;

We are anxious about Autumn for it signifies aging, rebirth and change;

And Winter comes, and we cannot help but associate it with sadness, death and decay. Writers have also not helped- I am yet to find one who had great things to say about Winter.

And so, as I reflect on Anne Bradstreet’s quote that draws a parallel between the seasons and the drama that is our lives, I cannot help but wonder which season you and I are at, and how we are taking advantage of it. Are we being reflective and purposeful as we hibernate in Winter; Are we embracing Summer and celebrating our achievements or missing the opportunity as we look back at the mistakes and problems of Autumn. And above all, what do we do when Spring finally comes? Do we embrace it with both hands, stay present in every moment, to make sure we miss nothing? Do we ensure we renew our thinking, and seize all the opportunities it brings?

Which season are you in, and how are you taking advantage of it?

I would love to hear from you!
