The Times They Are a Changing… Are You?

Operations Manager at Livin the Dream = semi retired but I will come out of retirement for a new challenge.
I am the first one to admit that with the passage of time things change and so do the people. If life has taught me anything, it’s that when things change you either change with them or you get left behind.
Well, I thought I had kept up with the changing times but as it turns out, in some things I have been left behind, way behind. Case in point… I was in Mont Tremblant a few days ago (which is a thriving tourist town just north of Montreal) and I happen to stop in an area that was full of different little stores, I think today’s youth call them “Boutiques”. I went into this little store (Boutique) that was called “Diesel”, I have to say here that I have been left so far behind on this that I am not even sure of the spelling but its pronounced the same as diesel gas. Anyway, the store sold different kinds of clothing which included blue jeans that had their brand name of “Diesel” on everything they sold.
I was in the market for a new pair of blue jeans and stopped at a rack of jeans to look at a few pair when I noticed that a pair of jeans where full of holes. I had really thought someone had put them there for a joke. Now I have seen people wearing jeans with holes in them before but there is no way I thought they bought them like that, I always thought they bought the jeans and ripped them to taste, if you can call ripped jeans “tasteful”. So, the salesman or more appropriately he should be called the “sales boy” asked if he could help me. I pointed out the ripped jeans and he said “yes, they are sold that way”. He then asked if I wanted to try them on and I just laughed at him.
I took a look at the price tag on the jeans and I couldn’t believe that it said they were $499.00. I asked the salesman if that was the right price and he said yes but that today was my lucky day because the jeans were 50% off and they are only $250.00. I really laughed out loud here. I said I would never even pay that much for a pair of jeans with no holes in them never mind a pair jeans full of holes. I told him that when I was a kid if I ever wore a pair of jeans that had holes in them all of the kids would make fun of me and never let up. I could never leave the house dressed like that.
His response to me after I said that was he couldn’t believe it was like that at one time. Well, “times have changed” and as far as buying jeans with holes in them already and then wearing them, I still feel the same way as when I was a kid…. No Way Man!! How about you? Have you changed enough with the times to pay $499.00 for a pair of blue jeans that have rips and holes in them already? Oh I forgot, the jeans were on sale for only $250.00…lol
