The one thing no business and no person can ever buy? Time. It is so valuable and yet, so often we let it slip through our fingers each day.
From when you wake up and maybe hit the snooze button to when you aimlessly scroll through social media or get lost in a YouTube trail. We've all been there! There are so many distractions in today’s world and to avoid these you have to deploy a lot of discipline.
This is just an insight to some of what I do that has helped me stay on top of my work and have a balanced life.
What works for me is routine and patterns that I can turn into habits which allow me to make the most of my day. Without fail, I am up at the crack of dawn to start my day and I think this is one of the best things you can do to really maximize the day.
I love keeping fit and have got into CrossFit as a way of keeping myself challenged and engaged with my fitness. I will get my workout done first thing in the morning and even on days when I don't, I will still keep the routine of getting up early.
I compartmentalize my day so that before it starts, I have a plan laid out for any meetings, work tasks, social events and family engagements. It’s so important to stay disciplined. What I find works is to be really honest with yourself over how long these tasks take. You’re only cheating yourself otherwise. It's also important to know what kind of breaks you need.
That could be reading or getting a walk in or whatever it is that gets your mind and blood flowing. Take care of yourself and you can then take care of others and function well at work or running your business.
We often get big projects and want to dive straight in and get things going. The best approach here goes back to understanding the task and then planning how you will deliver it. Once you have that plan, plot it in to your calendar and build in a few fail safes so that you don't get behind.
It can be daunting when you see the size of a project or a goal. Just always remember every goal started with one step. Step by step and block by block before you know it you will look up and be at the finish line.
